Wedding Planning

We spent our Sunday afternoon meeting with brides and grooms at the Farmstead Restaurant Bridal Show, alongside one of our partners: Candice Currier of Brides On A Budget. We love her philosophy that a wedding is, first and foremost, the bride and groom’s day–it’s a belief that we share!–and we’re always impressed by the tasteful and imaginative creations she comes up with.

As with all of our partners, we love working with her, and if you enjoy working with us, you’ll love working with her, too. Here are just a few shots from a wedding we did with her this past summer, to give you a taste of what she can do.

A “Wedding-Related Celebration”

Ron and Jen had one of the most unique weddings we’d heard about yet: they’d gone on an Alaskan adventure together, and had a small ceremony of just an officiant and a pair of witnesses. They more than made up for the very-private ceremony when they returned, however, with a big “Wedding-Related Celebration” for their family and friends. They were a really laid-back and enjoyable couple, and their seemingly low-key exterior gave way to amusing antics for the camera… and judging from the slideshow they played documenting their Alaska trip, that happens pretty often! 🙂

It’s no surprise that they went for our on-site photo booth option. When you include the on-site photo booth with any two-photographer booking, we’ll bring studio backdrops and lighting to your event, so you and your guests can pose together and ham it up for as long as you like! It’s a nice way to get fun photos with the loved ones you may not see very often.

Bridal Preparations

Here are a few quick shots from August, of one of our happy brides getting ready for her ceremony. Carla and Travis held their ceremony and receoption in familiar surroundings, and their anticipation about joining their lives together was obvious from the moment we arrived on site. I got to document their preparations, while Ben scouted locations and checked in with the groomsmen.

Carla was every bit the excited, blushing bride, and it was fun to watch her, and her three equally excited bridesmaids, as they did their hair and makeup, put on their dresses, and perfected every detail. Their smiles and their energy were contagious, and they had me smiling, too.

Wedding Portraiture

As much as we love and enjoy the photojournalistic aspect of shooting weddings, it’s rare to find a wedding that doesn’t call for at least a few wedding portraits. Even if you’re more excited about spontaneous shots than posed portraits, you can be pretty certain that someone in your family will enjoy having portraits to keep.

Here’s a shot from this past summer, where we used our on-location professional lighting kit. We can bring our lighting kit for longer wedding bookings that have more time set aside for posed portraits, and it gives us endless flexibility for locations and lighting styles.  A few extra minutes of setup can make a world of difference, and the results are well worth the extra time.

Weddings and Family

Wedding season has kept us busy… which is why we’re only just now beginning to share some of our experiences. One of them was with Michael and Jasmin, who held an intimate ceremony here in Portland. Having the event here proved to be more of a challenge for them, because they were planning it long-distance.

It was worth the effort, however, because it was a rare opportunity for their immediate family–the groom being one of six siblings!–to come together in one place, and celebrate the happy occasion. The two of them were genuinely thoughtful, both with their family and with each other, and it showed throughout the day. Their Portland-based family members made thoughtful contributions, too, so the whole event ran smoothly and looked lovely!

Wedding Sneak Peek

We’ll give you a closer look at the wedding of this lovely couple before too much longer, but here are a couple of shots to tide you over.

It was a beautiful day, and this was definitely one of the coolest locations we’ve shot at this year, so we’ll have plenty to say about that soon. But for now, enjoy the photos!

By the Water

One of our favorite weddings this past summer took place in Cannon Beach, and you probably won’t hear us complain about having an excuse to go to the coast, especially on a day as gorgeous as this one was!

The drive out there did have a few surprises for us, though. We wanted to get out there as early as possible, to get a look at the grounds, but, as we came into town, we got a perilously close view of a car accident… a car from the oncoming lane hit another car that was only two cars behind us! It was a narrow road with no place to pull over, but we heard the crunching noise and saw some of it in the rearview. It was a pretty close call!

Fortunately, the wedding itself went much more swimmingly than the drive over! They’d chosen a beautiful spot for the ceremony, with long grasses and an expansive view of the ocean, and you could hear the waves crashing as they gave their vows. The bride also made her young daughter part of the ceremony, which not only joined the couple’s lives together, but also brought the three of them together as a family.

After some posed portraits near the water, the beauty of the ceremony gave way to a reception where everyone let their hair down. The reception was decorated with mood lighting and a tiki bar theme, and they’d hired a DJ who also offered karaoke! The group had a great time dancing and belting out old standards, and once we were “off the clock,” they even invited us to do a song or two.

They were a fun couple, and they were focused on just making sure that everyone relaxed and enjoyed the evening, and we definitely felt lucky to be working with them. All the best to them, going forward!

More photos after the cut.
